Española Island Tour
The kingdom of the Galápagos albatross
The experience
Española is the southernmost and one of the oldest islands in the archipelago; millions of years of isolation turned it into a laboratory of unique species. It is the only place on Earth where the Galápagos albatross nests (April to December).
The Punta Suárez trail passes between colonies of Nazca and blue-footed boobies, red and green marine iguanas, and the famous blowhole: a fissure that throws the sea 25 metres into the sky.
Galápagos albatross
From April to December the entire world population of this species nests on Española; its courtship dance is unique.
The blowhole
A lava fissure that fires jets of seawater up to 25 metres against the cliff.
Christmas iguanas
Española's marine iguanas wear intense reds and greens found nowhere else.
